There is so much to see and do in the areas around Coldingham; we have listed just a few.

Coldingham Sands Beach
Beach                            The coast line from St Abbs to Eyemouth has unspoilt award winning sheltered sandy beaches and hidden coves. Coldingham Bay is a beautiful sandy beach with multicoloured beach huts. An ideal place for swimming & surfing.

St Abbs nature reserve

St Abbs nature reserve   St Abbs nature reserve a landmark site, which is famous for a variety of wild-life including indigenous and migrating sea-birds who take up residence along our spectacular coast-line.

Coldingham Priory

Priory                            The priory started as a monastic house (St Ebba Nunnery) in A.D.642, and after being destroyed and rebuilt over the years, a beautiful building still remains. Public worship is still observed.

Shore Diving at St Abbs

Diving                           The coastal area around Coldingham is a world renowned voluntary marine preservation site which proves excellent diving. Boat charters are available every day from St Abbs Harbour and Eyemouth. 

Golfing

Golf                         Scotland is world renowned as the home of golf, and there are numerous courses in the area, with Eyemouth recently voted Britain’s no1 extraordinary golf hole.  Discounts are available for guests.

Seals

Eyemouth              Eyemouth is a busy fishing village which has many interesting buildings and a fascinating history that includes smuggling, shipwrecks and witch-burning. There is always something to do whether its visiting the beach, the museum or just saying hello to the local seals.

FishingFishing                     Fishing is available in lochs, rivers and the sea. West loch & Whinney loch at Coldingham have picturesque surroundings and are regularly stocked with brown, rainbow and blue trout.

WalkingWalking                        The area encapsulates some of the most breathtaking coastal scenery seen anywhere in Britain.  We have a booklet of 14 walks to choose from ranging from a nice leisurely stroll to a more adventurous hike.


CyclingCycling                     Cycling has become a very popular pastime in the borders with a lot more routes to see our spectacular views and beautiful countryside. Signposted cycle routes and colour coded trails offer levels to suit all abilities.

Surfing and Bodyboarding

Surfing & Bodyboarding For the more adventurous, Coldingham bay provides the ideal place for surfing and bodyboarding all year round. Equipment can be hired locally.

Llama Walking

Alnwick Castle - Better known as Harry Potter's Hogswarts Castle is home to the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland.  It has been a family home since 1309, originally built to defend England's northern border from the Scottish armies.  Alnwick castle has been voted the 'Finest Castle in Britain' by the viewers of channel 5.  www.alnwickcastle.com  

Bamburgh Castle - Is probably the finest castle in England. It is perched on a basalt outcrop on the very edge of the North Sea at Bamburgh, Northumberland. It commands stunning views of the Farne Islands, Holy Island and land' ward to the Cheviot hills. www.bamburghcastle.com

Berwick Barracks - You and your family can experience military life first hand. A visit to the 'Beat the Drum' exhibition at these 18th century barracks recreates the detail and tradition of days in the barrack room. See the museum dedicated to the 'Kings Own Scottish Borderers'.

Chain Bridge Honey Farm - The Visitors' Centre was opened in 1995.  It's free and they strive to keep it up to date, adding further displays and information on a regular basis.  So whether it's your first or fifty-first visit we're sure you'll find it an enjoyable experience. www.chainbridgehoney.co.uk

Floors Castle & Gardens - The Castle is the largest inhabited castle in Scotland and home of the Duke and Duchess of Roxburghe and their family. Wander through spectacular state rooms filled with priceless painting and furnishes.  The Riverside & Woodland walks offer an opportunity to see a wealth of wildlife including red squirrels.  www.floorscastle.com

Lindisfarne Priory - One of the holiest Anglo-Saxon sites in England.  Learn about the Monastery's fantastic wealth and walk in the grounds where brutal Viking raiders plundered the priory, forcing Monks to take refuge on the mainland.   www.lindisfarne.org.uk

Manderston - The home of Lord Palmer, is a house on which no expense was spared.  Adam in style, the quality throughout makes it the most outstanding house of the Edwardian age, featuring uniquely the only silver staircase in the world.  www.manderston.co.uk

Mellerstain, Scotland's Unique Adam Mansion - Is one of Scotland's great Georgian houses, standing in acres of beautiful parkland.  The interior decoration is outstanding, having been preserved in their original Adam colours. www.mellerstain.com

Moondance Wools - Woolcrafts Centre located on a working sheep farm on Coldingham Moor, approximately 3 miles from the centre of Coldingham Village.  There are individual workshops in spinning, weaving & knitting which can often be arranged to fit your schedule.  They also sell spinning wheels, looms, fleece & fibre, yarn, dyestuffs  and books. Paxton House Gallery & Country Park - Built to the design of John Adam in 1758 by Patrick Home of Billie for his intended bride, Sophie de Brandt.  Paxton is one of the finest 18th century Palladian country house in Britain with the largest collection of Chippendale furniture in Scotland. www.paxtonhouse.com

Pot-A-Doodle Do - The centre is an oasis of creativity for all to enjoy.  You can work with ceramics creating your own personalised pieces of pottery which can then be glazed and fired.  Other activities include mosaic and glass painting and creating unique designs with coloured sands.  www.potadoodledo.com
